Positive Reflection: A Ride from Negativity To Positivity

There was something for which I was confused. I had skeptical views about all motivational videos, where people advice: “Be Yourself”, “You make your own happiness” and a lot of other self-help dialogues. I believed that happiness was not something to be achieved. This is temporary which holds its pleasure for a short interval until you have lost your attraction for that particular happiness. These exaggerating videos only fantasize about happiness that persuades you to achieve it, which in return results in toxic and chaotic for your mental health. I am ashamed to confess that this was my past thinking. THIS EXTREME PESSIMISTIC APPROACH!

Luckily, in the back three months from Amal Career-Prep Fellowship, I had the chance to explore my thinking under invaluable mentors who did not reiterate the aforementioned self-help thoughts at all but helped me to shape my mindset concisely and in a realistic manner. I learned many significant lessons and practised them in real-life that shuttered my rigid mentality, and provoked me to get over this pessimistic attitude.

When this journey for Amal Academy was started, I was asked to write my values and principles. Believe me, this was a herculean task for me throughout this Fellowship. It was the first step to discover myself, not only through dialogues but from practice. This question took a lot of energy and mental attention to look into all my life and discover my values and principles.

But now, I am glad that I completed this task. I further faced many questions, which we never consider important to answer, from only this question. I knew about myself, not completely but it sparked the intensity to know more and came over many little values that play a huge role in life.

I practiced kindness in a very small way, from giving a little time to my friend to whom I had not talked for a long while to spending time with my family, that made me believe that these little acts of kindness might give you a sense of peace.

Knowing ourselves is a lifelong journey. But it can give us a better version of ourselves. Finding our values, showing gratitude, and crossing positivity — all these steps bring us closer to ourselves and enable us to eliminate the elements of negativity.
